ABSTRACT

The Laboratory provides the main tools for the selection of materials and relevant processing routes, which better satisfy specific engineering design requirements. The design process is regarded as strictly related to the choice of the best candidate materials, whose specific properties will be therefore considered, together with the relevant processing routes. At the end of the Laboratory, students will be able to select the best material candidates for designing and manufacturing structures and products, using suitable processing technologies.

COURSE CONTENT

  • Design driven materials selection
  • Design structure and strategy
  • Applications to Multifunctional Metamaterials: case studies.
  • Assignments

TEACHING ACTIVITIES

During the onsite classes students will be introduced to the materials selection strategy using specific software tools, e.g., Granta Edupack.
Exam: at the end of the course each student will submit a materials selection project that will be discussed during the oral exam.
