Hydrodynamic Metamaterials for Fluid Flows
- Hours 15
- ECTS 3
- Teacher Prof. ZOLEZZI Guido, Prof. TUBINO Marco
Objectives
Hydrodynamic metamaterials are artificial materials that can alter the physical properties of fluid flow such as effective viscosity, density, or permeability in unique and innovative ways. For such reasons, they have received considerable attention in the last years because of their novel flow control capabilities. In this course, the theory and principles of hydrodynamic metamaterials are first introduced. Then, the different functions that can be realized through hydrodynamic metamaterials (e.g., microfluidics, exotic fluids, hydrodynamic cloaking) will be illustrated by considering porous media, non-porous media, creeping flows, and non-creeping flows.
Topics
Introduction to hydrodynamic metamaterials
Analysis and design of hydrodynamic metamaterials
Application of hydrodynamic metamaterials and flow control capabilities
Required Skills
Course of “Foundations of Mechanics and Acoustics”.
Course Modality and Verification of Learning
The classes will be given in hybrid (i.e., onsite and online) format. The teaching activity includes theoretical lessons and practical examples.
The exam consists of a written test with multiple-choice questions on the topics of the course.
