Additive Manufacturing of Metasurfaces and Metamaterials (Technologies)
- Hours 15
- ECTS 3
- Teacher Prof. PEGORETTI Alessandro, Prof. SGLAVO Vincenzo, Dr. EMANUELLI Lorena
Objectives
Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies introduce novel opportunities for producing intricate metasurface and metamaterial structures, many of which are unattainable through conventional fabrication approaches. Through the layering of a 3D model, AM builds objects incrementally, allowing for the formation of complex structures. AM categories include wire-based, liquid-based, powder-based, and mixed liquid–powder-based, accommodating diverse materials like metals, polymers, and ceramics across nano to meter scales. This course provides an overview of various AM technologies tailored to produce metallic, ceramic, and polymeric metasurfaces and metamaterials.
Topics
Additive Manufacturing technologies for production of metal metalmaterials
Additive Manufacturing technologies for production of ceramic metalmaterials
Additive Manufacturing technologies for production of polymeric metalmaterials
Required Skills
Courses of “Foundations of Material Science”
Course Modality and Verification of Learning
The course is offered on-site and on-line (synchronous and asynchronous) with video recordings, hand-outs, etc. of the lectures available off-line (*). The teaching activity includes theoretical lessons and is useful for those intending to do Additive Manufacturing laboratories. The exam consists of a written test with multiple-choice questions on the topics of the course.
