Foundations of Electromagnetic Waves
- Hours 15
- ECTS 3
- Teacher Prof. MASSA Andrea, Prof. SALUCCI Marco, Dr. TOSI Luca
Objectives
The course provides the basic knowledge related to the analysis of electromagnetic waves, up to the application layer. The course, through based on rigorous theoretical foundations, is oriented towards the applications of greatest interest to the electrical and telecommunication engineers. Theoretical classes will be complemented by numerical (carried out with the aid of SW programs) and experimental (by means of HW emulators) exercises.
Topics
Introduction to Maxwell equations and solutions
Interactions between waves and media
Energy theorems and radiation conditions
Propagation of waves
Required Skills
Basics of math (differential equations, integral equations), physics (electromagnetism), and signal theory (Fourier transform).
Course Modality and Verification of Learning
The course is offered on-site and on-line (synchronous and asynchronous) with video recordings, hand-outs, etc. of the lectures available off-line (*). The teaching activity includes theoretical lessons and SW/HW emulator exercises. The exam consists of a written test with multiple-choice questions on the topics of the course.
