Lab on Advanced Computational Modeling of Mechanical Metamaterials
- Hours 15
- ECTS 2
- Teacher Prof. GALLO Pasquale, Dr. DE BIASI Raffaele
Objectives
The main target of the course is to provide a solid foundation for the computational modeling of mechanical metamaterials. After the course, the student will be able to identify the main numerical challenges associated with mechanical metamaterials and to perform numerical simulations of mechanical metamaterials. These objectives are achieved by numerous exercises, complemented by critical theoretical aspects.
Topics
Principles, main categories, and properties of mechanical metamaterials: an introduction
Examples and applications of numerical simulations
- Homogenization of metamaterials
- Use of Truss, Beam and Shell elements
Required Skills
Basic knowledge of Ansys and, in general, Finite Element Analyses.
Course Modality and Verification of Learning
The course is offered on-site and on-line (synchronous and asynchronous) with video recordings, hand-outs, etc. of the lectures available off-line (*). The teaching activity includes guided exercises and examples on-site. The exam consists of a written report of the assignments given during the course (i.e. independent simulations and exercises).
